Sight Seeing & Attractions …
In the unlikely event that you feel like you need to leave the loving arms of your treehouse, here are a few places you might want to visit:
Symond’s Yat – one of the Forest of Dean’s most famous beauty spots (you might recognise it from Netflix’s ‘Sex Education’), amazing view from Yat Rock, gorgeous pubs, boat trips and walks; in the summer, there’s a hand-ferry to take you across the river. It’s about a 5-mile walk/4-hour canoe from Lydbrook.
Symond’s Yat East (5.4 miles) has Saracen’s Head Gastro Pub; and from Mar-Oct Kingfisher Cruisers (07831 297672) will take you on a 1 hour trip up and down the river, you can buy tickets down there, dogs welcome. Canoe hire also there.
Symond’s Yat West (3.5 miles) has Ye Old Ferrie in, canoe hire by the hour, and the Butterfly Museum, plus various other pubs and a holiday park.
Goodrich Castle (3.2 miles)
If you like castles, Goodrich Castle is a good one.
Ross-On-Wye (5 miles): lovely historic town, with antique/flea market shops plus some useful chains, a great butchers shop, and some nice cafes and pubs, including the Royal Hotel which has a nice terrace overlooking the river; and the Hope & Anchor Pub down by the river Monmouth (6.6 miles) another lovely historic town, lots of shops/restaurants/cafes, Waitrose, Just Cook and M&S Food for extra supplies
